* Just one press of the Smartnav connects
you to a round-the-clock control centre and friendly Personal
Assistant (PA).
* PA enters your destination details into a central computer,
which calculates the optimum route, avoiding the traffic using
Trafficmaster's up-to-the minute traffic information.
* In just a few seconds your route is downloaded to the car
and clear verbal turn-by-turn instructions are provided throughout
your journey.
* Your journey is constantly monitored by the computer, so
Smartnav will warn you of new delays and will look for a quicker
alternative route. The better route is downloaded into your
car at a press of the button.
Any part of the address can be given, from
business name to postcode. Smartnav can even find your nearest
petrol station, cash machine or other points of interest.
And because the mapping is held outside the vehicle Smartnav
ensures the latest road developments are available so you
don't have to worry about out-of-date information.
There are over 6,000 safety cameras installed
on UK roads today and this number is continuing to grow. They
are often located at accident black spots to reduce speed
and prevent accidents. Interestingly, in a Mori survey it
was found that motorists using speed camera detection devices
travelled over 50% more miles between accidents than those
without these devices.
What may be more worrying to some drivers
is that the government predicts that there will be 3 million
speeding convictions, due to the increase in safety cameras.
So to protect you and your car, Smartnav offers Safe Speed,
an optional service that alerts you to the accident blackspots
and safety cameras.
The Smartnav Safe Speed option alerts you
when you approach zones monitored by fixed safety cameras,
variable safety cameras and multi-camera detectors (also known
as Specs). There are three audible alert stages. Three beeps
warn you as you approach a monitored zone, followed by five
beeps immediately before you enter the zone. These beeps remind
you to concentrate on the road ahead, and give you enough
time to correct your speed.
If you continue driving over the limit through
the zone, continuous beeps warn you until your speed falls
below the limit.
Every day in the UK, thieves attempt to steal
around 2,500 cars. Over half of those stolen are never recovered,
or are too badly damaged to be returned. If a stolen car is
recovered, the estimated average uninsured cost to the owner
is £470. If it is not recovered, the cost can be £2,000
or more.
If you have the Stolen Vehicle Tracking option
and your vehicle is stolen, we can help to locate it by using
the Global Positioning System (GPS) within your Smartnav unit.
In addition, fitting Stolen Vehicle Tracker to your vehicle
could also reduce your insurance premiums.
If your vehicle is stolen, you must first
report the theft to the Police and obtain a crime reference
number. Once you have the number, call the Smartnav PA on
our dedicated Stolen Vehicle Tracking phone line. The PA activates
the GPS tracking function in your vehicle's Smartnav unit,
which then tells us the car's exact location every 20 seconds.
We continuously update the Police with the vehicle's location
to help them recover it.
The service is operational 24 hours a day,
365 days a year.
The Stolen Vehicle Tracking service has a
Thatcham Q class listing, which means that many leading insurance
companies recognise the Trackstar option for insurance policies
and discounts.
